Cologne Centurions suffered a serious defeat against Madrid Bravos

The Spanish team, one of the surprises of the season and a serious playoff candidate, was looking to bounce back after their loss to Paris Musketeers in the previous week. The game against Centurions was crucial to maintaining Bravos' aspirations in the playoff race.

On the other hand, Cologne Centurions arrived to Vallehermoso in their best shape after achieving two consecutive victories against Frankfurt Galaxy and Hamburg SeaDevils. Quarterback Isaiah Weed was performing well, but the absence of running back Gerald Ameln, who was having a breakout season at ELF, proved to be a major setback.

First Half of the Game

From the beginning, Madrid made its intentions clear. A quick three-and-out, with Isaiah Weed attempting to run and throw, set the tone for the Bravos' defensive performance. On the next drive, running backs Dwayne Obi and Edu Molina marched down the field, culminating in a rushing touchdown by quarterback Steve Duncan

Colonia's decision to pair cornerback Bijon Harris with William Patterson proved to be a mistake, as it removed their best defensive player from the equation, while Madrid effectively distributed the ball between their offensive players.

Still in the first quarter, the game continued on the same path, with Víctor Albarracín and Julio Aguado suffocating Colonia's offense, which led to an interception by cornerback Andy Vera. Madrid's running attack was relentless, with Dwayne Obi scoring on a drive in which Duncan gained almost 35 yards in a personal run.

Isaiah Weed struggled to find his rhythm throughout the game. Despite having the electrifying Carlos Hill at his disposal, any connection between them was quickly neutralized by the Madrid secondary, who produced a stellar collective performance. Álvaro Cansinos replaced the injured Jal'en Embry, putting in an outstanding display, while Luke Glenna added an interception that stopped what was probably the Germans' best offensive drive.

Second Half and Game Ending

With the match reaching half-time, the score seemed low considering what was seen on the game field. However, after the break, Madrid Bravos quickly made their mark with Edu Molina being a constant threat and scoring twice (Duncan and TE Raúl Cernuda) before Álvaro Cansinos added a pick-six that raised the score up to 35-0.

In an impressive display of defensive prowess, Bravos scored a safety on the next drive, making the 37-0. The score would remain unchanged in the fourth quarter, which followed a similar pattern, with Bravos giving minutes to their backups while Centurions attempted to advance with runs from Adom and Tanwani. However, Isaiah Weed was intercepted for the third time in the game by Philip Boye, who left a good impression on the field.

Conclusion

With this result, Madrid Bravos improve their record to 6-2 as they prepare to face the significantly improved Hamburg SeaDevils, while the Cologne Centurions, now 3-5, find themselves dealing with uncertainty.
