Italian Football League - Power Ranking Week 7

1st Place: Legnano Frogs

The Legnano Frogs did not play in week 7, they will remain in first place as last week they won 55-0 to the Bologna Warriors to remain undefeated. In week 8 the Frogs will have another bye week which they’ll use to prepare for an Ancona Dolphins team on the come up!

2nd Place: Firenze Guelfi

The Firenze Guelfi dominated at home vs the Giaguari Torino. They’ll remain on top of the Girone B and undefeated. Andrea Fimiani, the Italian QB, continued on his road to the 2025 MVP, with 4 passing TDs and 2 rushing. Three of those passing TDs were received by his favorite target, import WR Frankie Stola. The other import Eystin Salum, who’s usually scoring on offense, had a pick six in the third quarter, whilst the import LB Colin Schooler was able to score a rushing TD on offense and he also had a catch on a two point conversion. This just shows how versatile and capable these Guelfi Firenze players are. The defense stepped up impressively, allowing 28 points to one of the best offenses in the league whilst being hit with injuries at multiple positions. In week 8 the Guelfi will take on the Albisola Superiore Pirates in a matchup that they should be able to win to move to 7-0.

3rd Place: Ancona Dolphins

What a game and what an impressive win by the Ancona Dolphins. In their 24-21 victory at home against the Panthers Parma, the Dolphins defense showed again that they’re a huge strength of their team, getting two goal line stands and limiting the Panthers’ offense to only 21 points. On offense we saw the import QB Blake Eaton spread the ball around, with three different scorers in the game: Terhark, Orlandini and Iudicone. The thrilling part of the game was the end of the fourth quarter, when the Dolphins had another goal line stand just to fumble the ball on offense immediately after. This led to the Panthers tying the game up 21-21, but Ancona showed composure, burning the clock with rushes and closing out the game with a Field Goal by Dazzani. The Ancona Dolphins have a bye week next up on the calendar, which they’ll use to prepare to take on the undefeated Legnano Frogs which is another giant of Italian Ancona will look to take down.

4th Place: Torino Giaguari

The Giaguari Torino went into their week 7 game as the only possible opponent for the Firenze Guelfi, but apparently they’re not. It was 55-28 to Firenze, in a game that  turned out to be very disappointing  for the Giaguari. After opening up the scoring first with Lewandowski throwing to McCarthy, they started falling behind at the end of the first when after a huge 70+ yard passing TD to Serra was called back for an illegal man downfield. They were able to get back on the scoreboard thanks to Jacopo Salsa late in the second quarter and also in the third, but by then the score was run up to 49-21. The final TD was a great one on a deep pass by the backup Duranti to Serra, but it was too little too late. The Giaguari just couldn’t stop the Guelfi offense, can’t blame them though because no one else has been able to do that so far. Next week they have a bye week followed by a much more approachable game against the Lazio Marines.

5th Place: Parma Panthers

The Parma Panthers took their second false step and fell to third in the Girone A, it’s 24-21 to Ancona against the Dolphins. The problem for the Panthers looks to be their red-zone offense as they were stopped multiple times from scoring in week 7 from the extremely solid Ancona Dolphins defense. The efforts by Cebotaru and twice by the import Fiscelli ultimately weren’t enough in the end. The defense, despite forcing and recovering a fumble late in the fourth which led to the game tying TD. Parma couldn’t stop the Dolphins from burning more than 2 minutes off the clock and realizing the game winning Field Goal. We can resume the Parma Panthers game as “good, but not enough,” and that can be said about their first half of the season too. Let’s not forget though that last year the Panthers were 3-2 too at some point, and in the second half of the season they went on a run to become back to back IFL champions. They’ll be looking to start this confidence switch in the next two weeks as they’ll face the Girone A’s bottom two teams back to back, the Lions Bergamo at home and then the Warriors Bologna on the road.

6th Place: Skorpions Varese

The Varese Skorpions are so back! In week 6 they scored 55 points in their loss against the Guelfi, and it seems the powerful Skorpions offense that we know is finally back with a convincing 41-12 win over the Lazio Marines. Hamish McClure is balling out, he finally looks confident leading this offense. He talked last week about how the week 5 bye has helped him a lot getting on the same page with all of his receivers and that was definitely shown in the last two matchups. This week McClure had 5 passing TDs, two to Volonnino and one each to Rai, Piazzi and Zanovello, just a stellar performance spreading the ball around by the American import QB. On defense the Skorpions finally looked a lot more solid. They had allowed only two Field Goals until the late score in the fourth quarter, but the game was pretty much over by then. They were also able to pretty much shut down any options for Norwood, (Marines’ import QB), allowing little to no rushing and even less passing plays. In week 8 the Skorpions will face off against the Ferrara Aquile, who they barely beat in week 1. They’ll have to have a much more convincing win this weekend to prove that they are a playoff team.

7th Place: Milano Rhinos

The Milano Rhinos are back in the winning column, with a 34-10 win on the road versus the Bergamo Lions. This was a must-win matchup for them as the Lions are the bottom ranked team in the Girone A, and they did not disappoint as they controlled the tempo through the whole match to bring home a quite easy W. The import QB Marquez McCray had his best game of the season so far, with 2 rushing TDs and two passing TDs to Bruno Escobar. Bruno also had a pick six on defense, he’s not only playing both ways, but also scoring both ways. The only moments where it felt like the Lions were gaining some momentum was quickly shut off by an amazing kick-off return TD by Jordan Bouah. Another player who had a great impact on offense was Tamsir Seck, who just played his last game of the season with the Milano Rhinos and will now move to Hamburg to join the Sea Devils in their preparation towards the ELF season. The Rhinos will face the Warriors Bologna in week 8, this match will be huge to get back to .500 at 3-3. It will also be the last game with Jordan Bouah as he’ll go train with the Rhein Fire after this one, he said in our post game interviews that he wants to leave the Rhinos with a shot at the playoffs.

8th Place: Ferrara Aquile

The Ferrara Aquile did not play in week 7, they climbed up though because last week they won 35-14 over the Albisola Superiore Pirates. In week 8 the Aquile will play the Skorpions Varese, a team that’s been improving a lot lately and at the same time a team that they’ll have to beat if they want to  remain in contention for a playoff spot.

9th Place: Albisola Pirates

The Albisola Superiore Pirates did not play in week 7. They lost in week 6 to the Aquile Ferrara in a game that could’ve separated them from the bottom teams of the Girone B, but unfortunately for them it didn’t. In week 8 the Pirates will face the Guelfi Firenze who look unstoppable right now.

10th Place: Lazio Marines

The Lazio Marines fall against the Skorpions Varese, a 41-12 defeat at home. The Marines clearly have a huge problem with tackling on defense. You can go watch back Zanovello’s touchdown where even the import Thornton had a bad miss on a tackle. The only highlight for the D was in the first half when Thornton forced a fumble and Ubaldini was able to recover it for the Marines. On offense the plays just didn’t work for Lazio, the import QB Norwood had to tuck the ball and rush it himself a bunch of times through the game and until the 4th quarter the only points they had put up were two Field Goals by Impallomeni. In the fourth quarter Norwood linked with his italian WR Rinaldi to put up the Marines’ only TD of the game, but by then they had already allowed 41 to the Skorpions. In week 8 the Lazio Marines get a bye week to regroup and prepare for the Giaguari Torino, although it won’t be easy to face the current #2 seed in the Girone B.

11th Place: Warriors Bologna

The Warriors Bologna did not play in week 7, they were beaten pretty badly in week 6 by the Frogs and that’s the reason they lost a few spots. Next week the Warriors will play the Rhinos Milano to try and get their second win of the season.

12th Place:  Bergamo Lions

As the great Jameis Winston once said “just pain, it was pain everywhere”. The Bergamo Lions remain the only team to not get a win in the IFL 2025 as they fall 34-10 to the Rhinos Milano in week 7. At the end of the second quarter they were able to score a TD with Giovanni Zani and coming out of the half Galbiati brought the score to 20-10 with a Field Goal, but after that the Rhinos scored immediately on a kick-off return, which cut the legs from under the Lions right when they were gaining confidence. On defense the Lions didn’t have much of an answer to the Rhinos offense. We did see an interception by Nicholas Cortinovis on a messy kick attempt by the Rhinos at the end of the second quarter though. In week 8 the Lions Bergamo will face the Panthers Parma, who’ll be even tougher to beat after their loss to the Ancona Dolphins this past weekend.
