Zaragoza Hurricanes (3-4) visit Mallorca Voltors (3-4) in the difficult fiefdom of Poliesportiu San Moix (Saturday 6 at 5:00 p.m., match televised by Sinopsis Vuvuzela on YouTube), in a game in which both teams, without playoff options, have much more at stake than it might seem.
Hurricanes Finish Strong
Zaragoza Hurricanes hopes were to reach this game qualified for the playoffs, or at least with the chance of doing so, but the controversial precautionary suspension of the FEFA decision that gave them the win against L'Hospitalet Pioners on their first game (due to improper alignment of the Catalan team), has left them without options.
The Hurricanes come into this game after a resounding victory over the Barcelona Pagesos, in a choral display in which the Zaragozans gave a show in both offense and defense. With an outstanding Jesús Sánchez, contributing 3 running touchdowns, and the reliable receivers Luis Sánchez and Aaron David (recently presented as Barcelona Dragons players for the ELF), the team led by Mexican quarterback Edgar Ulloa appears able to score many points against any rival.
On defense, the Hurricanes left their score at 0 for the first time, thanks to a team effort in which the work of their secondary unit stood out, with the Alonso brothers, Jesús Murillo and Nicolás Pérez as the most outstanding players.
Volters Home Field Advantage
Mallorca Voltors suffered a tough loss against the powerful Badalona Dracs, leaders of the conference and the only undefeated team in the competition. The team coached by the Mexican Head Coach Jesús Sánchez have suffered throughout the season obtaining their victories against Pagesos and surprising L'Hospitalet Pioners on the island. The Voltors have their best players in their American quarterback Zahir Wilder and Scottish wide receiver Calum Davidson, but injuries and a small domestic roster have made things difficult for the Mallorcan team.
The location of the field will be a factor, and main ally of Voltors. The trip to the island of Mallorca takes its toll, and Son Moix is a fortress where the public usually turns out, becoming a much-needed number 12 player.
No Negative Records Wanted
In the previous game Hurricanes beat Voltors in Zaragoza 35-19, in a match in which the locals showed to be a better team than Voltors. Both teams have changed a lot since that game. However, Hurricanes and Voltors aim to conclude the season avoiding a negative record and with the focus on a very much desired 4-4. Any other result could be seen as a failure.
