Parma Panthers Set to Face Undefeated Varese Skorpions

Parma Panthers Set to Face Undefeated Varese Skorpions

Week 5 of the IFL features a possible championship match up when the Parma Panthers host the Varese Skorpions. Both teams are coming off the Easter bye week and looking to continue their winning ways.

Building on Success

Parma, in their last game, overwhelmed the Bologna Warriors in all three phases of the game to say the least in their 52-0 victory. The return of Ryan Minniti to the field after his ejection from the Milano Rhinos game in week 2 helped on offense and defense in the win. But it was the Tomasso Mondari show as he stepped in for missing Quarterback Robbie Patterson.  Mondari finished the game with 17 completions for 191 yards and 6 Touchdown passes. Not sure what the Quarterback situation is in Parma and why Patterson did not play, but the offense did showcase a very effective passing game that has lacked in the first few games of the season. Parma`s game plan was to attack through the air, and they did just that on their way to victory.

Facing the Skorpions

This week poses a much different opponent as the Skorpions have started the season 3-0. They are led by the brother duo of Ryan and Mac Griffin who have helped the Skorpions build great confidence on both sides of the ball. Their defense has been dominant in the first three games only allowing 1 touchdown and 7 points in 3 games. It will be interesting to find out if we see Robbie Patterson or Tomasso Mondari at Quarterback for the Panthers, but expect a heavy dose of Ryan Minniti and Mikey Alfieri who both line up in the backfield and at wide receiver. They can also play on the field at the same time when Mondari is at Quarterback.

Defense and Playoff Seeding

After Parma`s loss to the Ancona Dolphins they will be out to prove why they are the defending champs and get a statement win. This game could have big implications for playoff seeding as these teams only play each other once this season. Parma`s defense will be an x-factor in this game, they will need to get stops and force some turnovers to help win this game. They have struggled against solid competition so far and they really need to play a great game for 4 quarters. Whether this game turns into a shootout or a defensive battle, either way this match up should bring an exciting game to the IFL fans.
