1st. Calanda Broncos
The Broncos won with a statement win in the top duel against Basel. With a 48-6 win, the highly anticipated top game never got exciting. And Chur did it all with backup QB Max Gray, who scored two passing touchdowns and three rushing touchdowns. DB Patrick Grand had a pick six and another interception. The Broncos confirmed their role as favorites for the season. It remains to be seen how long starting QB Robin Sehnlich will be out. The CEFL campaign will begin soon, in which Calanda will compete as the reigning runner-up.
2nd. Bern Grizzlies
The Bernese won their fourth game in a row. Even though it was close against Thun at halftime, the Grizzlies were able to win 35-7. Next week they face Basel in another top-of-the-table clash.
3rd. Basel Gladiators
Many experts agreed: If Basel wanted to achieve their first win against Calanda since 2011, the chances were very good this time. But Basel was dominated at the goal line. The better skill players could not compensate for the weaker lines and Basel was out coached. The Gladiators certainly had a gameplan, but not one for Wildcast gimmick QB Max Gray. The Gladiators did win the head-to-head matchup against Bern in week 1 and had dominant wins up until the Broncos game, but with this loss they can't maintain their second place power ranking.
4th. Geneva Seahawks
The Geneva team had a bye week on the Easter weekend. Before that, there was a clear defeat in Basel. Nevertheless, they remain in fourth place, as their direct playoff rivals still pose no threat.
5th. Winterthur Warriors
The Warriors have only played twice this season. They defeated the Renegades 65-7 in the rivalry state of Zurich game. Swiss QB Loris Lenzlinger and WR Ramon Angst scored spectacular touchdowns.
6th. Thun Tigers
The Tigers will be without WR Thomas Gfeller for the rest of the season due to a knee injury. Thun is in every game, but still can't win. Although the 0-4 record looks bad, a home win against Geneva can boost their playoff hopes again.
7th. St. Gallen Bears
The Bears also had a free Easter weekend. Before that, the team from eastern Switzerland lost heavily to the Grizzlies. The playoffs are probably unrealistic for last year's surprise team.
8th. Zurich Renegades
The Renegades lost their three games with 0:50, 7:65 and 0:71. It looks like Zurich will not win a game this year.
