Week 17 GFL Power Ranking

#1 Potsdam Royals

The Potsdam Royals demonstrated their dominance once again with a commanding 92-7 victory over the Paderborn Dolphins. This impressive performance capped off a perfect regular season for the Royals, who finished with an undefeated record of 12 wins and 0 losses. With a bye week ahead, the Royals will await their opponent for the playoffs, which will be the fourth-placed team from the GFL South. Their exceptional regular season sets them up as a formidable contender for the upcoming postseason.

#2 Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns

After a three-week break, the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns are set to face their final regular season challenge. The Dresden Monarchs, their upcoming opponents, will provide a tough test just before the playoffs begin. This matchup is crucial for the Unicorns as they look to regain momentum and fine-tune their game in preparation for the postseason.

#3 Dresden Monarchs

The Dresden Monarchs delivered a dominant performance, securing a clear victory

against the Allgäu Comets. With this win, they solidify their position heading into the

playoffs. However, a tougher challenge looms as they face the Schwäbisch Hall

Unicorns in their final regular-season game. This matchup will serve as a crucial test

for the Monarchs as they prepare for the postseason.

#4 New Yorker Lions Braunschweig

The NewYorker Lions Braunschweig took advantage of their bye week to rest and prepare for the highly anticipated Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony) Derby against the Hildesheim Invaders. With both teams already secured in the playoffs, the Lions are focused on using this matchup to fine-tune their game and build momentum heading into the postseason. The derby promises to be an exciting clash, and the Lions are ready to put on a strong performance.

#5 Hildesheim Invaders

The Hildesheim Invaders suffered a disappointing loss in front of their home crowd, falling to the Berlin Rebels. Despite the setback, the Invaders are looking ahead to the highly anticipated Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony) Derby against the NewYorker Lions Braunschweig. Both teams have already secured their spots in the playoffs, making this matchup a thrilling prelude to the postseason. The Invaders will be eager to bounce back and make a strong statement before the playoffs begin.

#6 Allgäu Comets

The Allgäu Comets missed a crucial opportunity to edge closer to a playoff spot after falling to the Dresden Monarchs. Despite the setback, the Comets remain in the hunt for a postseason berth. Everything now hinges on their final game of the regular season against the Kirchdorf Wildcats. A win could still keep their playoff dreams alive, making this weekend's matchup a decisive moment for the team.

#7 Berlin Rebels

The Berlin Rebels pulled off a stunning 44-39 victory against the favored Hildesheim

Invaders, a win that highlights their resilience and determination. This important

victory suggests that the Rebels might have secured their place in the league on their

own merit, even without the events surrounding the Berlin Adler. With the

much-anticipated Berlin Derby now canceled, the Rebels' season has come to an

end. Congratulations to the Rebels on a hard-fought season!

#8 ifm Razorbacks Ravensburg

After a bye week, the IFM Razorbacks Ravensburg find themselves in a strong

position with a 6-5 record. They are on the brink of securing a playoff spot, but first,

they must face a direct competitor, the Munich Cowboys, this weekend. A win for the

Razorbacks would clinch their playoff ticket and achieve their season’s goal. It's a

high-stakes game, and the Razorbacks are ready to capitalize on their momentum.

#9 Straubing Spiders

The Straubing Spiders secured a crucial victory against the Kirchdorf Wildcats, keeping their playoff aspirations intact. As the final game day approaches, everything is on the line. With a win against the Saarland Hurricanes, the Spiders should solidify their spot in the playoffs. It's a decisive moment, and the Spiders will need to bring their best to ensure they extend their season.

#10 Paderborn Dolphins

The Paderborn Dolphins were completely outmatched by the reigning German champions in their latest game. However, with their safety from relegation already secured, the Dolphins have no need to worry about dropping down a league. This weekend, they can play with a sense of freedom as they head to Kiel to face the Baltic Hurricanes, aiming to end their season on a high note.

#11 Kiel Baltic Hurricanes

The Kiel Baltic Hurricanes have secured their place in the GFL for another season after the Berlin Adler's unexpected forfeiture of their match. Similar to last season, the Hurricanes remain in the league due to the withdrawal of a rival. Maintaining a spot in Germany's top league requires not only athletic performance but also strong organizational capabilities and financial stability. This weekend, the Kiel team will host the Paderborn Dolphins, and despite the circumstances, fans can still expect a competitive clash.

#12 Munich Cowboys

The Munich Cowboys had a bye week to prepare for their final regular season game. This weekend, they host the IFM Razorbacks Ravensburg in a direct battle for the remaining playoff spots. In their first encounter, the Cowboys lost by 15 points. To secure their place in the playoffs, the Cowboys need to win this matchup by a greater margin to claim the head-to-head tiebreaker. If they fall short, they'll be relying on other results to go their way. The stakes couldn't be higher as the Cowboys fight to keep their postseason hopes alive.

#13 Saarland Hurricanes

The Saarland Hurricanes had a bye week and remain in 6th place in the GFL South standings with 3 wins. Their position in the standings is set and cannot change, but they still have one game left in the season. This weekend, they will travel to face the Straubing Spiders, a team fighting for a playoff spot. While the Hurricanes have little at stake, they will look to end their season on a strong note and potentially play spoiler to Straubing's playoff ambitions.

#14 Kirchdorf Wildcats

The Kirchdorf Wildcats put up a strong fight but ultimately fell to the Straubing Spiders, losing 21-15. This defeat solidifies their position at the bottom of the GFL South standings. With one game left in the season, the Wildcats have a final opportunity to add a second win to their record as they face the Allgäu Comets this weekend. Despite the tough season, they’ll be looking to finish on a high note.

#15 Berlin Adler

In a shocking turn of events, the Berlin Adler abruptly canceled their home game against the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes, resulting in the loss of their GFL license. This unexpected move has not only decided the fierce relegation battle but also led to the direct relegation of the Adler, who are now expected to drop not just one league to GFL 2, but likely all the way down to the Regionalliga Ost (3rd division).

It’s a bitter end for a team that was on the verge of securing a playoff spot just weeks ago. Internal disagreements have forced the Adler to rebuild from scratch. The loss of the Berlin Adler, one of Germany's most storied football clubs, is a significant blow to the ERIMA GFL, especially considering the team’s recent promotion to the top division in 2021.
